Opportunity to automate tasks with scripting and automation tools. **Network Administrator — Job Description** **Summary** * Installs, configures, maintains, and secures an organization’s network infrastructure to ensure reliable connectivity, optimal performance, and minimal downtime. **Core responsibilities** * Network design \& implementation: Deploy and configure LAN/WAN networks, switches, routers, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, VPNs, and related network services. * Monitoring \& performance: Monitor network performance, bandwidth usage, and latency; tune configurations and QoS to optimize traffic flow. * Security \& access control: Implement and maintain network security controls (firewalls, IDS/IPS, NAC), manage VLANs, access lists, and VPNs; apply patches and firmware updates. * Troubleshooting \& support: Diagnose and resolve connectivity, routing, and hardware issues; provide 2nd/3rd\-line support for escalated incidents. * Infrastructure maintenance: Perform regular firmware upgrades, configuration backups, capacity planning, and hardware lifecycle management. * Network documentation: Maintain network diagrams, IP address management (IPAM), configuration standards, runbooks, and change logs. * Wireless \& remote access: Manage wireless controllers, SSID/security policies, and support remote access technologies (VPN, SD\-WAN). * Vendor \& stakeholder coordination: Work with ISPs, hardware vendors, and internal teams for provisioning, escalations, and projects. * Disaster recovery \& redundancy: Design and validate redundancy, failover, and disaster recovery procedures; support DR testing. * Automation \& scripting: Automate routine tasks, provisioning, and monitoring using scripts or automation tools (Python, Ansible, Terraform for network infra). * Compliance \& auditing: Ensure network configurations meet security/compliance requirements and participate in audits and remediation. * Capacity \& change management: Plan network growth, manage change requests, and participate in network architecture and upgrade projects. **Typical duties (day\-to\-day)** * Monitor alerts and resolve network incidents; escalate when needed. * Troubleshoot user connectivity issues and WAN link problems. * Apply security patches and firmware updates during maintenance windows. * Provision new network devices and update inventory/configuration management. * Review and optimize routing, switching, and firewall rules. * Maintain and update network documentation and topology diagrams. * Coordinate with vendors and ISPs for outages or installations. * Support network\-related project work (migrations, expansions, SD\-WAN deployments). * Conduct periodic capacity and performance assessments. * Participate in on\-call rotation for critical network incidents. **Required qualifications** * Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or equivalent experience; relevant certifications often required. * Experience: 2–5\+ years in network administration or engineering (mid/senior roles require more). * Technical skills: Proficiency with routing and switching (OSPF, BGP, VLANs), firewall configuration, VPNs, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, network troubleshooting, and wireless technologies. * Platforms \& tools: Experience with Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, Fortinet, Palo Alto, or comparable vendors; familiarity with network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Nagios, Datadog), IPAM, and Wi‑Fi controllers. * Scripting \& automation: Basic scripting (Python, Bash) and knowledge of automation/orchestration tools (Ansible, Terraform) preferred. * Soft skills: Strong problem\-solving, communication, documentation, and teamwork abilities. **Preferred attributes** * Experience with cloud networking (AWS VPC, Azure Virtual Network, GCP), SD\-WAN, and hybrid cloud connectivity. * Knowledge of network security frameworks and Zero Trust principles. * Experience with high\-availability architectures, load balancers, and network segmentation. * Certifications: CCNA/CCNP, JNCIA/JNCIP, Fortinet NSE, Palo Alto PCNSE, CompTIA Network\+ or equivalent.
