While a broker interacts with the client, the brokerage clerk handles the extensive paperwork, recordkeeping, and transaction processing that makes trading possible . This role is also known by various titles, including **Sales Assistant, Client Associate, Operations Coordinator, and Trading Assistant** . **Core Responsibilities** The daily tasks of a brokerage clerk are centered on accuracy, compliance, and supporting the brokerage team. Key responsibilities include: * **Transaction Processing:** Documenting security transactions (purchases, sales, conversions, payments) using computers and accounting ledgers . This also involves writing order tickets, matching buy and sell orders, and computing transfer taxes and brokerage fees . * **Client and Broker Support:** Corresponding with customers to answer inquiries, discuss market fluctuations, or resolve account problems . They also take client calls, process paperwork for opening and closing accounts, and record client activity . * **Recordkeeping and Compliance:** Maintaining accurate records of all daily transactions and holdings . This includes verifying ownership and transaction information to ensure conformance with governmental regulations . * **Administrative Clerical Tasks:** Performing general office duties such as answering phones, distributing mail, filing, and preparing forms like receipts, transmittal papers, and transfer confirmations . **Work Environment** Brokerage clerks typically work in the operations departments of financial firms, on trading floors, and in branch offices .
