Whether delivering items directly to guests in their rooms or supporting housekeeping, engineering, banquets, restaurants, front office, or other areas requiring assistance, runners do whatever is necessary to achieve the goal. They are vital to ensuring hotel success. In any position you hold, there are several fundamental elements required for success—for example, creating a safe work environment, following company policies and procedures, respecting confidentiality, protecting company assets, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring professional uniform, personal appearance, and communication at all times. Runners are constantly on the move—they stand, sit, walk extensively, and perform a wide variety of tasks (including navigating confined spaces, elevated spaces, stairs, and service ramps). It is essential they have everything needed to perform their job (e.g., ability to read and interpret information from a wide variety of formats, including small print; inspect tools, equipment, or machinery); adopt a “hands-on” approach (move, lift, carry, push, and place objects weighing up to 55 pounds without assistance; reach overhead, kneel, twist, stretch, and bend). It is essential that runners perform their best work and other reasonable tasks as requested, to ensure guest stay success and our business success.
