In our hotels, runners work with all departments to ensure that guests—and employees—have what they need, precisely when and where they need it. Whether delivering items directly to guests’ rooms or providing support to housekeeping, engineering, banquets, restaurants, front office, or other areas requesting assistance, runners do whatever is necessary to achieve the goal. They are essential to the hotel’s success. In any position you hold, there are fundamental elements required for success—for example, maintaining a safe work environment, adhering to company policies and procedures, respecting confidentiality, protecting company assets, upholding quality standards, and ensuring professional appearance, grooming, and communication at all times. Runners are constantly on the move—they stand, sit, walk extensively, and perform a wide variety of tasks (including navigating confined spaces, elevated areas, stairs, and service ramps). It is critical that they have everything needed to perform their job (such as the ability to read and interpret information presented in various formats, including small print; inspect tools, equipment, or machinery); adopt a “hands-on” approach (moving, lifting, carrying, pushing, and placing objects weighing up to 55 pounds without assistance; reaching overhead, kneeling, twisting, stretching, and bending). It is essential that runners perform their best work and other reasonable tasks as requested, to ensure guest satisfaction and business success.
