**Process Engineer — Job Description**
**Role summary**
A Process Engineer is responsible for designing, improving, and troubleshooting manufacturing or operational processes to meet quality, cost, safety, and productivity targets. The role includes process documentation, root\-cause analysis, process optimization, and supporting scale\-up or continuous improvement activities.
**Key responsibilities**
* Analyze current processes and performance metrics (yield, cycle time, scrap/rework, uptime, OEE, cost per unit).
* Develop and optimize process methods, operating parameters, and standard work.
* Design or improve workflows for production/operations, including layout/process flow as needed.
* Conduct root\-cause analysis and lead corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
* Write, maintain, and review process documentation (SOPs, work instructions, batch/recipe specs, control plans).
* Define process controls and support implementation of monitoring/measurement plans.
* Support equipment qualification/validation activities (as applicable).
* Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, maintenance, engineering, and supply chain teams.
* Provide technical support during production—troubleshoot issues and prevent recurrence.
* Support continuous improvement programs (Lean/Six Sigma, waste reduction, yield improvement).
* Participate in safety reviews and risk assessments (e.g., HAZOP/FMEA) when required.
* Assist with new product introduction (NPI), scale\-up, and changeovers.
**Required qualifications**
* Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
* Experience with process design/optimization in a manufacturing/operations environment (industry\-specific preferred).
* Strong data analysis skills (process capability, DOE, statistical thinking).
* Working knowledge of root\-cause tools (5 Whys, Fishbone, fault trees, etc.).
* Proficiency with documentation standards and technical writing.
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P\&IDs/process flow diagrams (if applicable).
* Demonstrated ability to work cross\-functionally and drive improvements.
**Preferred qualifications**
* Lean / Six Sigma training (Green/Black Belt) or equivalent improvement experience.
* Experience with FMEA, control plans, SPC, MSA, or validation/qualification.
* Familiarity with ERP/MES/SCADA or manufacturing data systems.
* Domain knowledge relevant to the plant (pharma, food \& beverage, metals, semiconductors, automotive, etc.).
* Experience with DOE and experimentation (e.g., factorial designs).
* Project experience with capital improvements or process re\-engineering.
