The Barista is responsible for operating ASTRO’s coffee counter and delivering a high standard of specialty coffee and service to members, guests, and approved visitors. This is not a standard café environment. The Barista is part of the ASTRO experience and is expected to provide calm, attentive, discreet, and personalized service consistent with an exclusive private members club. Every drink must be prepared correctly. Every guest must be treated professionally. The coffee counter must remain immaculate and ready for service at all times. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Specialty Coffee Preparation * Prepare specialty coffee and other beverages using professional espresso machines, grinders, and coffee equipment * Consistently follow ASTRO recipes, measurements, extraction standards, and presentation requirements * Properly dial in espresso and monitor grind, extraction, and beverage quality throughout the shift * Prepare espresso\-based drinks, filter coffee, tea, cold beverages, and other menu items as required * Ensure every beverage served meets ASTRO’s quality and presentation standard * Maintain proper handling and storage of coffee beans, milk, ingredients, and other consumables * Maintain professional coffee equipment correctly and report any faults immediately Member and VIP Guest Experience * Welcome members and guests calmly, professionally, and respectfully * Take orders accurately and confirm any special requests * Present beverages neatly and professionally * Provide attentive service without being intrusive * Learn and remember regular members’ preferences where appropriate * Anticipate reasonable member and guest requirements rather than waiting to be asked * Maintain discretion and respect the privacy of ASTRO members and their guests at all times * Never discuss members, their vehicles, conversations, visits, or activities with others The standard of service should reflect an exclusive private club rather than a conventional coffee shop. POS and Order Management * Enter every order accurately into the designated POS system * Ensure orders, complimentary items, member benefits, and payments are recorded correctly * Follow ASTRO procedures for cash, card, complimentary, and other transactions * Report any discrepancy immediately * Never provide unrecorded products or beverages unless authorized Coffee Counter Management The Barista is responsible for the condition and readiness of the entire coffee counter. The counter must remain: * Clean * Organized * Fully stocked * Presentable * Ready for service The Barista must: * Clean equipment and work surfaces continuously throughout the shift * Wash and organize cups, glasses, utensils, and equipment * Keep all visible areas free from unnecessary items and clutter * Ensure equipment is cleaned correctly at closing * Complete opening and closing procedures as instructed * Never leave the counter unattended in an unacceptable condition Inventory and Stock Control * Monitor daily stock levels of coffee, milk, water, cups, packaging, ingredients, cleaning materials, and other supplies * Maintain an accurate inventory of coffee counter materials * Inform management of low stock before materials run out * Monitor expiration dates and product condition * Rotate stock correctly * Minimize unnecessary waste * Record damaged, expired, missing, or wasted stock * Assist with receiving and checking coffee counter deliveries Running out of a standard item because stock was not monitored is considered a failure of preparation. CLEANLINESS AND HYGIENE The Barista is personally responsible for maintaining exceptional hygiene standards at the coffee counter. * Hands must be washed regularly * Food and beverage preparation areas must remain sanitary * Milk and perishable products must be stored correctly * Used equipment must be cleaned promptly * Waste must be removed regularly * Cleaning chemicals must be stored away from food and beverage products * ASTRO’s facility cleanliness standards must be followed at all times PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT AND APPEARANCE The Barista represents ASTRO directly in front of members and guests. The Barista must: * Wear the complete ASTRO uniform as instructed * Maintain excellent personal hygiene and grooming * Speak clearly and professionally in English * Remain calm and composed, including during busy periods * Maintain a positive and welcoming attitude * Be attentive and observant * Demonstrate strong attention to detail * Follow instructions accurately * Be punctual, reliable, and disciplined * Maintain confidentiality at all times Personal phone use while serving members or operating the coffee counter is prohibited except when required for work or authorized. ASTRO STANDARDS The Barista is an ASTRO employee and is therefore subject to all ASTRO SOPs, confidentiality requirements, facility rules, access restrictions, and standards of conduct. ASTRO is a private environment. Information regarding members, guests, vehicles, conversations, internal operations, events, or anything observed inside ASTRO must not be discussed with non\-employees. Photography or recording inside ASTRO is prohibited unless specifically authorized. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS Must Have * Previous professional barista experience * Experience preparing specialty coffee using professional espresso equipment * Good understanding of espresso extraction, milk steaming, and coffee preparation * Clear spoken English * Excellent personal presentation and hygiene * Strong attention to detail * Calm and positive personality * Professional and respectful communication * Ability to operate a POS system accurately * Ability to maintain stock and inventory * Reliable, punctual, and disciplined * Ability to follow detailed procedures consistently Preferred * Previous experience in a specialty coffee shop, luxury hotel, private club, premium hospitality environment, or VIP service * Knowledge of different coffee beans, brewing methods, and specialty coffee preparation * Experience serving high\-profile or VIP guests * Additional languages, particularly Arabic PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS Success in this role is defined by: * Consistently excellent beverage quality * Excellent member and guest feedback * Accurate order and POS records * Clean and immaculate coffee counter * Proper inventory management with no avoidable stock shortages * Minimal waste * Professional appearance and conduct * Discretion and confidentiality * Reliability and punctuality * Ability to maintain ASTRO standards without constant supervision FINAL STANDARD At ASTRO, making the coffee correctly is only part of the job.
