Manufacturer training on the Giesen roaster Head Roaster — Job Post **Role:** Head Coffee Roaster **Location:** New Rayyan, Qatar · Full\-time, on\-site **Version:** 2\.0 · 2026\-08\-27 **We're Hiring: Head Coffee Roaster** Swala Roastery is looking for an experienced **Head Roaster** to take responsibility for our roasting operation and help maintain consistently high coffee quality from green bean to final cup. We currently operate: * **Toper 10 kg roaster** * **Giesen 30 kg roaster** Key Responsibilities * Roast production coffees and develop roasting profiles * Maintain consistency between batches and production days * Conduct regular **cupping and sensory evaluation** * Perform quality control on roasted coffee * Monitor coffee quality at the café level, including espresso and filter coffee * Work with the barista team to maintain brewing and extraction standards * Evaluate green coffee and assist with coffee selection * Manage green and roasted coffee inventory * Monitor stock levels and production requirements * Prepare wholesale, retail, and internal coffee orders * Organize production schedules based on demand * Maintain roast logs, profiles, cupping records, QC reports, and production documentation * Monitor resting, packaging, labeling, and storage of roasted coffee * Assist with troubleshooting roasting and quality issues * Help establish clear SOPs for the roasting department * Maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper maintenance procedures around roasting equipment * Train and supervise roasting/production staff as the operation grows Requirements * **3–5\+ years of professional coffee roasting experience** * Strong understanding of roast development and profile management * Experience with production roasting, not only sample roasting * Strong cupping and sensory skills * Good understanding of specialty coffee, processing methods, origins, and green coffee * Experience with quality control and production documentation * Strong organizational and inventory\-management skills * Ability to work independently and take ownership of the roasting department * Good communication skills and ability to work closely with café and operations teams Preferred * Experience roasting on **Giesen, Toper, or similar commercial drum roasters** * Experience using **Artisan** roasting software, or a similar system such as Cropster * Experience managing a growing roasting operation * SCA roasting, sensory, or related certifications are an advantage What We Offer * Employment visa, and annual leave in accordance with Qatar Labour Law * Manufacturer training on the Giesen roaster * Direct input into green coffee selection and buying * A growing roasting operation with room to develop the department We are looking for someone who is **consistent, organized, detail\-oriented, and genuinely passionate about coffee quality** — someone who can take ownership of the roasting operation rather than simply operate the machine. **Position:** Head Roaster **Experience:** 3–5 years **Employment:** Full\-time Interested candidates can apply by sending their CV along with a short introduction about their roasting experience, machines they have worked with, and coffees they have roasted.
