**Network Engineer — Job Description**
Overview A Network Engineer designs, implements, and maintains an organization’s network infrastructure to ensure secure, reliable, and high\-performance connectivity for users and services.
**Key Responsibilities**
* Network design \& architecture: design LAN/WAN/SD\-WAN, data center, and campus networks; plan topology, segmentation, redundancy, and capacity.
* Implementation \& configuration: install and configure routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, wireless controllers, and VPN gateways.
* Network optimization \& performance: monitor throughput, latency, jitter; tune QoS, routing protocols, and switching parameters for optimal performance.
* Routing \& switching: design and maintain routing (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), VLANs, STP/RSTP, and inter\-VLAN routing.
* Security \& access control: implement network security controls (ACLs, stateful firewalls, IDS/IPS), NAC, segmentation, and secure remote access.
* Wireless networking: design, deploy, and troubleshoot Wi‑Fi networks (802\.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax), manage controllers and APs, and optimize RF.
* Network monitoring \& observability: deploy and maintain monitoring/alerting tools, capture flow data (NetFlow/sFlow), and analyze logs for anomalies.
* Troubleshooting \& incident response: diagnose connectivity issues, escalations, and perform root\-cause analyses; participate in on\-call rotations.
* VPN \& remote access: manage site\-to\-site and client VPNs, ensure secure access for remote users and offices.
* WAN \& carrier management: manage MPLS, SD\-WAN, direct cloud connections (AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute), and vendor relationships.
* Configuration management \& automation: maintain configs, use IaC or automation tools (Ansible, Python, Terraform) for provisioning and change control.
* Capacity planning \& upgrades: forecast demand, plan network upgrades, and execute migrations with minimal downtime.
* Documentation \& standards: maintain network diagrams, runbooks, IP addressing plans, and change logs.
* Collaboration: work with security, cloud, systems, and application teams for network requirements and integrations.
**Required Qualifications**
* Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Networking, or equivalent experience.
* Experience: 3\+ years (Network Engineer) or 5\+ years (Senior) managing enterprise networks.
* Technical skills:
* Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, routing, and switching fundamentals.
* Experience with routing protocols: BGP, OSPF, EIGRP.
* Hands\-on with enterprise network hardware (Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Fortinet, Palo Alto).
* Familiarity with firewalls, load balancers, and VPN technologies.
* Wireless networking experience and RF troubleshooting.
* Network automation and scripting (Ansible, Python) and familiarity with CI/CD for network changes.
* Experience with cloud networking (VPCs, peering, transit gateways) and hybrid connectivity.
* Monitoring tools: SolarWinds, Grafana, Prometheus, NetBox, or similar.
* Soft skills: analytical troubleshooting, communication, project management, and documentation.
**Nice\-to\-Have**
* Certifications: CCNA/CCNP/CCIE, JNCIA/JNCIP, Fortinet NSE, Palo Alto PCNSE.
* Experience with SD\-WAN platforms, network virtualization, and intent\-based networking.
* Knowledge of network programmability (NETCONF/RESTCONF, gNMI) and telemetry.
* Experience with network security operations and zero\-trust networking models.
