Focuses on security, compliance, and capacity planning for networks **Network Administrator — Job Description** Overview A Network Administrator installs, configures, and maintains an organization’s network infrastructure to ensure stable, secure, and high‑performance connectivity for users and services. **Key Responsibilities** * Network deployment \& configuration: install and configure routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and VPN gateways. * Daily operations \& monitoring: monitor network health, performance, and availability; respond to alerts and resolve incidents. * Troubleshooting \& support: diagnose and resolve connectivity, routing, switching, and wireless issues for end users and systems. * User \& device access: manage VLANs, IP addressing, DHCP, DNS, and network access controls (NAC). * Security \& patching: implement and maintain firewall rules, ACLs, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention, and apply firmware/security updates. * Backup \& recovery: maintain configuration backups, document recovery procedures, and support network disaster recovery plans. * Wireless management: deploy and tune Wi‑Fi networks, manage SSIDs, authentication (WPA2/WPA3\), and RF issues. * Network documentation: maintain up‑to‑date network diagrams, IP schemas, configuration records, and change logs. * Vendor liaison \& provisioning: coordinate with ISPs, carriers, and hardware vendors for provisioning, support, and escalations. * Capacity planning \& upgrades: monitor utilization, recommend upgrades, and execute maintenance windows with minimal downtime. * Automation \& scripting: use scripting (Python, Bash) or tools (Ansible) for routine tasks and configuration management. * Compliance \& policies: enforce network policies, support audits, and follow change control procedures. **Required Qualifications** * Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking, or equivalent experience. * Experience: 2–4 years in network administration or related IT roles (varies by level). * Technical skills: * Strong fundamentals: TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, routing, switching, and network troubleshooting. * Hands‑on with enterprise networking gear (Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, Ubiquiti, Fortinet, etc.). * Knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, BGP) and switching technologies (STP, LACP). * Experience with firewalls, VPNs, and basic security practices. * Wireless networking: deployment and RF troubleshooting. * Familiarity with DHCP/DNS services and IPAM tools. * Monitoring tools experience (Nagios, SolarWinds, Prometheus, PRTG) and logging. * Scripting/automation: basic Python, Bash, or Ansible for repetitive tasks. * Soft skills: problem‑solving, communication, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure. **Nice‑to‑Have** * Certifications: CCNA/CCNP, JNCIA/JNCIS, Aruba/CWNA, Fortinet NSE. * Experience with SD‑WAN, cloud networking (VPCs, peering), and hybrid connectivity. * Knowledge of network programmability (REST APIs, NETCONF/RESTCONF) and telemetry. * Experience with VoIP/UC, IPTV, or multicast deployments.
