Manages staff and ensures adherence to laws and industry regulations A transport supervisor oversees the safety, efficiency and compliance of transport operations. They ensure that vehicles, equipment and staff meet relevant regulations that governments and industry bodies set. These professionals inspect cars, lorries and other vehicles to ensure they're in safe working order. They also check that employees have loaded cargo correctly and safely and supervise the loading and offloading of goods. Common responsibilities for this position include: * **Monitoring driver performance:** Supervisors of transportation operations monitor driver hours and ensure they follow safe driving practices, complying with relevant laws and safety protocols. They monitor for any signs of fatigue to reduce the risk of injury or accidents. * **Supervising loading and offloading of goods:** Properly securing goods for transport improves transit efficiency. Transport managers monitor this process to make sure items arrive safely at their destination without damage or loss while avoiding any potential hazards in the process. * **Liaising with government departments:** In some cases, these experts coordinate with government agencies, such as a customs authority or the police. This usually occurs when managing transports across borders or other matters related to transport operations, such as security incidents or disasters involving transportation assets. * **Ensuring compliance with laws and industry regulations:** Following safety protocols helps to keep personnel safe and protects a company's reputation. Ensuring compliance can minimize legal liabilities during transit operations. * **Managing staff:** Supervisors are often responsible for managing staff, including drivers and warehouse personnel.
