Evaluate new technologies and mentor junior sysadmins. **Systems Administrator — Job Description** **Summary**: Design, deploy, and maintain reliable, secure IT infrastructure (servers, networks, virtualization, storage, backups, and cloud services) to support business operations and ensure high availability. **Key responsibilities:** * Install, configure, and maintain servers (Windows/Linux), virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper\-V), and container orchestration (Kubernetes) as applicable. * Manage identity and access systems (Active Directory, LDAP, IAM), user accounts, groups, and permissions. * Administer networking components: switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, load balancers; collaborate with network engineers on design and troubleshooting. * Monitor system performance and capacity; tune systems for reliability, scalability, and cost\-efficiency. * Implement, test, and maintain backup and disaster recovery plans; perform regular restores to validate backups. * Maintain system security: patch management, vulnerability scanning, incident response, and configuration hardening. * Manage cloud infrastructure and services (AWS, Azure, GCP) including IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation) and cost optimization. * Automate operational tasks using scripting and configuration management (PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, Puppet, Chef). * Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise services: DNS, DHCP, mail, file services, web/app servers, databases (coordination with DBAs). * Maintain system documentation, runbooks, and run periodic maintenance windows. * Provide on\-call support, incident remediation, and root\-cause analysis; participate in post\-incident reviews. * Work with security, dev, and product teams to support CI/CD pipelines, logging, monitoring, and observability (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK). * Evaluate and recommend new technologies, vendor solutions, and architecture improvements. * Mentor junior sysadmins and coordinate with cross\-functional teams for projects and migrations. **Qualifications:** * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience preferred. * 3\+ years’ experience administering enterprise systems (Windows and/or Linux) and networking infrastructure. * Strong knowledge of virtualization, storage, backups, and cloud platforms (at least one major cloud). * Proficiency in scripting/automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python) and configuration management tools. * Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting systems (Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, ELK, Datadog). * Solid understanding of security best practices, network protocols, and authentication systems. * Familiarity with IAC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD integration. * Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills. * Ability to work on\-call and handle urgent incidents. **Preferred skills:** * Certifications: RHCE, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, VMware VCP, or similar. * Experience with container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes) and service mesh technologies. * Knowledge of database administration basics and performance tuning. * Familiarity with SRE principles and site reliability tooling. * Experience with cost management and cloud billing optimization.
